Before Three 6 Mafia was Three 6 Mafia, they called themselves Triple Six Mafia, a slightly more blatant allusion to their dark themes. In the late '90s, once Three 6 Mafia had risen to superstar success in the South's rap scene, the Smoked Out label repackaged their early underground recordings into compilations and released them under the Triple Six Mafia moniker.
