Producers Eddie Bezalel and Hugo Nicolson launched Headless Heroes in 2008, aiming to record a covers-only album with several handpicked musicians. Nicolson drew upon his Los Angeles connections to assemble a group of studio instrumentalists -- including Josh Klinghoffer, Woody Jackson, Joey Waronker, Leo Abrahams, and Gus Seyffert -- while Bezalel searched for a proper vocalist via MySpace, eventually choosing Alela Diane.
